Ans: Major Head is the main unit of classification in Government accounts used to represent a particular function or service of Government, such as 2059–Public Works and 2216–Housing. Each Major Head is identified by a four-digit code and is further divided into Minor Heads, Sub-Heads, Detailed Heads and Object Heads for detailed accounting and budgetary control.
