AAO (Civil) CBT Examination for Section Officer Induction – Chandigarh Administration

The Finance Department (S.A.S. Establishment), Chandigarh Administration, vide Letter No. F&PO (I)-2025/147060 dated 31-12-2025, issued from Chandigarh Secretariat, Sector 9, Chandigarh, has notified the change in the method of induction of Section Officers in the Finance Department, Chandigarh Administration.

The communication has been issued by the Finance Department (S.A.S. Establishment), Chandigarh Administration to all Heads of Departments/Offices of Chandigarh Administration.

As per the notification, eligible employees will now be required to appear in the AAO (Civil) CBT Examination conducted by the Office of Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, Government of India for appointment as Section Officer in the Finance Department.

This change has been made pursuant to the change in service conditions of employees of Chandigarh Administration post 31.03.2022, as conveyed vide Notification No. G.S.R. 230(E) dated 29.03.2022.

The regulations of the examination have been circulated by the Office of Controller General of Accounts vide:

  • OM No. X-11001/3/7927(2021)EXAM-CGA/1447 dated 28.10.2021

Eligibility

The following employees of Chandigarh Administration are eligible to appear in the examination:

  • Clerks

  • Junior Assistants

  • Senior Assistants

  • Superintendent Grade-II

  • Auditors

  • UDC/LDC

  • Accountants

  • Stenographers/Steno-typists

  • Assistant Treasury Officers

  • District Treasurers

  • Assistant Treasurers (except officials of LAD appearing in SAS LAD Branch)

Candidates must:

  • Have completed 3 years of regular service in the relevant grade as on the first day of the month of examination.

  • Have successfully completed the probation period in the existing post.

Important Information

  • Throughout the regulations, the words “Assistant Accounts Officer (Civil)” shall be substituted with “Section Officer (SAS)”.

  • Clause No. 10.2 under Section 10 (Exemptions) has been omitted.

  • Candidates who have already applied for Punjab Subordinate Accounts Service Examination (OB) to be conducted by Government of Punjab in 2026 will not be affected by this change.

The communication has been issued with the approval of the Competent Authority.
